On the basketball court, Allen Iverson is one of the greatest players of his generation. From his college days at Georgetown University to his time spent in the NBA, most notably as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, he had no problem living up to expectations and making a lot of money along the way.
Unfortunately for Iverson, all of the money he made while in the NBA was not being used as it should have.
Since February of this year when Iverson divorced his ex-wife, she has been attempting to collect child support. For many months, the former star declined to make payment for one reason or the next.
However, things turned around when Iverson was threatened with a jail sentence. This eventually led to the player paying the $40,000 owed to his ex-wife. Had he waited any longer there is a very good chance Iverson would be walking the halls of a prison as opposed to working on his NBA comeback.
In court documents filed last month in Fulton County, Georgia, Iverson stated that he never paid the money due to his ex-wife because he believed all along the two of them would reconcile and eventually get back together.
The judge did not believe this and gave him an ultimatum: Pay the money that is due within 72 hours or face arrest. Obviously, Iverson decided to comply and pay the money requested. His attorney has stated that Iverson has complied with all orders and terms set forth by the judge.
If you are owed back child support, it is time to contact an attorney who specializes in this area of the law. You have a right to this money, regardless of how your ex-spouse is treating you. Contact a lawyer today for a consultation and to determine how to best move forward.
